A Brief Reflection
When I started this alphabet experiment in April, I wasn’t sure how long it would hold my attention. But once I began looking for A’s, they seemed to appear everywhere.
The key, I discovered, was to be flexible, a little clever, and not overly planned. The letters weren’t meant to become assignments. They were simply invitations.
And so May arrived, bringing B.
A Busy Month
May, it turns out, was a bit of a blur.
That’s fitting. May was full of celebrations and calendar commitments. The month seemed to race by, and B made plenty of appearances.
The kids kicked off the “B” theme beautifully with a Mother’s Day brunch, complete with biscuits, berries, bacon, and a bounty of blooming blossoms.
Then there was browsing in bookstores and bakeries, and a baseball game too.
Biking to the Bon Air Rose Garden, observing beetles, and a brisk walk on the Bridle Trail.
Sometimes the theme was my own private joke. A dinner of Mexican food with friends became burritos, banter, and—wait for it—even BYOB.
Other times, things didn’t go according to plan. When our biking trip to a bakery was rained out, Debbie and I ended up sharing baklava on a bench. Not the “B” words I had planned, but it worked.
Best of all were the unexpected B’s, like phone call from my brother Bobby. He began a new job baking bread at Birdie’s Pizza. It felt meant to be.
A Bigger Picture
As with April, this isn’t really about finding activities that begin with a particular letter.
The letter simply gives me a lens. A reason to notice details I might otherwise miss.
And now June is around the corner. I’m curious to see what C has in store. Perhaps a summer concert, a cup of coffee, or simply a conversation with a friend.
When we’re paying attention, life has a way of supplying its own alphabet.
